Bennington Battle Day Events Schedule
Battle Day festivities begin on Thursday, August 16th!
 All events listed are open to the public.
Bennington Fire Department Station is located at 130 River Street.
Bennington Monument is located at 15 Monument Circle in Old Bennington.


 

 

 

 

 


Thursday, August 16th-Official Battle Day
All state historic sites are free!
6pm: Softball game with Bennington Fire Department against Bennington Rural Fire Department at Willow Park in Bennington.
7pm: Commemorative ceremony at the Bennington Battle Field (NY-67, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090).

Friday, August 17th
11am – 2pm: 
Hot sausage, burgers and hot dog lunch available for purchase at the Bennington Fire Department.
4pm – until food runs out: Chicken BBQ dinner at Bennington Fire Department, $10 per person.
4pm – 9pm: Silent auction at Bennington Fire Department.
6pm – 8pm: Car cruise at Bennington Fire Department, cars will parade down Main Street at 8:15pm.
6pm – 10pm: ‘Las Vegas Night’ with DJ Ben Patten from Magic 590AM at Bennington Fire Department.

Saturday, August 18th
8am:
Pre-registration for Battle Day 5K Road Race at Bennington Monument.
9:30am: 5K Road Race to begin and end at Bennington Monument. This is the fourteenth annual 5K race! The course is slightly rolling. In keeping with the Battle Day activities, this race is started with the firing of a cannon or revolutionary war era rifle. Following the 5K race is a 1/2 mile kids fun run (a fun, easy race for children). Forms available at the Monument or call 447-0550.
10am – 12pm: Kids Day at Bennington Recreation Center (655 Gage Street), sponsored by BFD.
10am-5pm: Battle Day Weekend Encampment, At the Bennington Monument Re-encounters will be on the grounds. Encampment will include a display of cannons, artillery and discuss what camp life was like at the time of the Battle.
12pm: USS Bennington memorial service and wreath laying ceremony at the ship’s bell (located at Bennington Town Office – 205 South Street).
3:30pm – 6pm: Battle of the Pies at 423 Main Street (next to Banner office). Prizes for best apple pie! Sign up to enter your pie (download form below or call 802-442-1050 to request a form). Judging at 5:00 pm. Pie slices available for purchase, all proceeds to benefit the BFD and DAR Ormsby chapter.
12pm-4pm: Firefighters’ Water Polo Event, rear parking lot of the Fire Station. Call for more information at 442-1050 and leave contact info for Capt. Tim Kinney.
3pm-5:30pm: On the lawn of the Bennington Monument. Moodus Fife and Drum Corp. played in 1891 for the Monuments dedication.
3:30pm-6pm: Battle of the Pies at 423 Main Street (next to Banner office). Prizes for best apple pie! Judging at 5:00 pm. Pie slices available for purchase, all proceeds to benefit the BFD and DAR Ormsby chapter.

Sunday, August 19th
10am – 4pm:
‘Living History Encampment’ with cannon muster and military drills at the Bennington Battle Monument. Soldiers and minutemen will be camping on the grounds.
10 am – 4 pm: Battlefield Tours – Guided tours of the Bennington Battlefield located in Walloomsac, NY.
11am – 3 pm: Battle of the Pies at 423 Main Street (next to Banner office). Buy a slice of pie, with milk, ice cream, and/or cheese, or all four! All proceeds to benefit BFD and DAR Ormsby Chapter.

12:30pm: Battle Day Parade! Public to line up on downtown Main Street. Parade will run from Main & Safford Street to Depot Street, North on Depot Street to River Street, River Street to the Fire Station.

3pm – 4:30pm: Fashionable Times – A historical review of woman’s fashions. The Bennington Battle Monument and the Friends of the Bennington Battle Monument will sponsor a production by Vintage Visitors Presentations to take place at the Old First Church Barn on Monument Circle. Several lovely ladies will model reproduction historic clothing dating from the late 1700’s to the early 1900’s. Fashions for children and gentlemen will also be featured. The Vintage Visitor Interpreters will remain for a short period after the show, in costume, to chat and answer questions.
There will be a $10.00 admission for adults (15 and over) and $2.00 for youth (14 and under). Light refreshments will be served.

4pm: Winner drawing for BFD $3,000 First Prize Battle Day cash raffle at the Bennington Fire Department.
