Vital Records

 

The following links will provide you with:

  • Necessary steps toward obtaining a marriage or civil union license
  • Recorded information from gravestones in local cemeteries until 1850
    (such as names, dates of birth, dates of death, etc.)
  • Births, deaths, and marriages occurring in Bennington from 1763 to approximately 1850

Effective July 1, 2019

Certified copies of Birth and Death certificates can only be issued to family members, legal guardians and certain court-related parties and legal
representatives. Applicants must complete an application and show acceptable identification.

To obtain a copy of any Vermont birth, death or marriage certificate, you may:

  1. Come into the office, complete the application, provide valid ID, and we will get your certificate immediately, or
  2. Mail a completed application and a copy of your valid ID to:Bennington Town Clerk

    Bennington, VT 05201

    Enclosed must be:
    1. Completed Application and ID
    2. A check / or money order made out to the Town of Bennington for $10.00 per certified copy

  3.  For online service (additional fee) scroll down and use the PayPal button. Email your Application and copy of your ID to cbarbeau@benningtonvt.org. We will process your request the day that we receive it.For credit card payments or expedited service of certified copies, vital records can now be purchased online for a small additional fee. Please
    specify TYPE OF RECORD you are requesting, DATE OF VITAL EVENT and NAME or NAMES as they appear on the vital record. (i.e: if requesting a birth certificate, please use maiden name). Your record will be sent via first class mail within one business day. The fee for online requests is $12.00 each record, which includes a $2.00 online fee. If more than one record is needed, be sure to change the quantity and list any additional information in the comments box.EXAMPLE: JOHN Q. SMITH DOB 1/1/50
