Extreme Weather Expected

The Bennington area is expecting extreme weather over this holiday weekend.  We are going to see an accumulation of rain, sleet and snow mix from now through tomorrow evening.  Cold weather will move into the area causing other issues. Roads will be a mess with slippery conditions.  This storm is going to create travel issues throughout the entire region.

The Bennington area will experience power outages as a result of the rain, sleet and wind.  The temperature is going to drop drastically during the early morning hours on Saturday.  We anticipate a 20 degree drop in as little as two hours.  This will cause an immediate freeze up and residents need to be prepared.  As the morning goes on, snow will develop and we will receive approximately 2″ of snow on top of the ice accumulation.

Residents in Bennington and surrounding areas should prepare today for the anticipated ice and freeze up conditions.  Please have an ample supply of food and water in your homes.  If you have an alternate heat source, please make sure it is in working order.

We anticipate poor travel conditions late tonight and most of the day on Saturday.  Please stay home and do not attempt to travel on slippery roadways.  Please do not attempt to travel on Saturday.  Report power outages to Green Mountain Power.
