BENNINGTON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Bennington Town Office Conference Room Wednesday, July 19, 2006 MINUTES MEMBERS PRESENT: John Dostal, Scott Murphy, Anne Bugbee, Tordis Ilg Isselhardt, and Victor Rolando. EXCUSED: Meg Campbell, and Laura Gresh 1. Minutes of June 7, 2006 Vic Rolando motioned and John Dostal seconded to accept the minutes of June 21, 2006. 2. DRB Chittenden Bank - 401 Main Street Kevin Thivierge from Chittenden Bank came to discuss the storm windows at the Bank. The existing windows will be kept in place, they will replace storm windows only. The panes will be bronze instead of white. Shutters will be removed on the existing Olin Scott Fund building at 407 Main Street. Isselhardt motioned to accept the proposed storm replacement windows as presented, and also to remove the shutters on the existing Olin Scott Fund building. Rolando seconded the motion. Police Department Sign - Exempt - 118 South Street The HPC discussed the proposed sign and below are some of their comments: • Would like a free standing grave stone type monument • Prefer not to have anything on the building • Proposed sign is too busy • Cannot make a decision without a clear picture, would like to have a picture of what the sign would look like on the building • Do not like Monument on sign blocking the flag The above comments were forwarded to Stuart Hurd, Town Manager 3. Other Preservation Issues John will be attending the next Select Board meeting in regard to sign placement for the Leonard J. Black Memorial Park. Tordis mentioned there would be a Planning Commission Hearing - Proposed Scenic Resource Protection Regulation meeting on August 16, 2006. Location will be the Bennington Free Library, 2nd Floor, Rotary Room, 7:00 p.m. (Invitation enclosed). 4. HPC Workplan Below are items to be added to the existing HPC Workplan list that was created on June 21, 2006. • Strengthen HPC's role and usefulness to Town Staff, Selectboard and DRB. Would like to be involved early on and throughout the process. • Strengthen HPCs' knowledge with inservice training, attend HPC conferences.
