Notice: Final Benmont Bridge Closure – 9/12 thru 9/17

Project Update, 8/30/16, Bennington BRF 1000(16) [Benmont Ave. Bridge]

FINAL BRIDGE CLOSURE:

THE BENMONT AVENUE BRIDGE IS SCHEDULED TO CLOSE TO THROUGH TRAFFIC ON MONDAY, 9/12/16 THROUGH SATURDAY, 9/17/16

Weather permitting, all remaining work on the bridge and the approach roadway will be completed during this time period

WHEN THE BRIDGE REOPENS IT WILL BE REOPENED FULLY TO TWO-WAY TRAFFIC.

PROJECT LOCATION: Benmont Ave. Bridge

Work to be completed on the Benmont Ave. bridge will begin approximately 400 ft. north of the intersection with Hunt St. and extend northerly along Benmont Ave. for approximately 300 ft.

CLOSURE: The Benmont Avenue bridge is scheduled to close MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2016 at 7:00 AM. This means that there will be no through traffic on Benmont Ave. throughout this closure period. Access to all businesses along Benmont Ave. will be maintained throughout the closure.

BRIDGE WORK: During the closure period, crews are scheduled to complete the installation of the membrane on the bridge deck concrete. The membrane will protect the concrete from water and salt intrusion and once in place cannot be driven on.  It is estimated that the installation of the membrane will take two work days.  After the membrane is completed, crews will complete the final paving of the bridge and approaches – which is planned to take two more work days.  After paving, expansion joints will be installed at each end of the bridge.  These joints extend across the full width of the roadway and cannot be driven over until completed.  This work should be completed in one day.  Once this is completed final pavement markings will be placed.  When all of this is completed, the bridge will be opened to two-way traffic.

All of the above described work must be done in dry conditions.  If the weather cooperates, the bridge should be re-opened as indicated above.  If any time is lost due to rain, the closure may last a little longer.

TRAFFIC DELAYS: Periodic closures will result in slightly increased travel time for motorists. Please allow extra time in your travel plans when traveling through the project area.

DETOUR INFORMATION: This is just a reminder that when traveling EAST on Northside Dr. (heading towards Route 7), the only businesses accessible via the slip lane are Taco Bell/KFC and/or Gardner’s Motorsports. To access points south of the bridge on Benmont Ave., through-traffic should continue on Northside Drive and proceed to Route 7 South and follow the detour.

The Benmont Ave. bridge will continue to remain closed to southbound traffic for the duration of this project. Motorists may not travel across the bridge going southbound at any time during this project, either during construction hours or after hours. Please observe all construction and detour signs. Thank you.

PEDESTRIAN DETOUR:  The pedestrian detour will remain in place until the end of construction. Please note sidewalk closures and adhere to the signed pedestrian detour route.

Drivers are warned to exercise extreme caution on granular surfaced roadways in a work zone. Punctured tires and windshield damage could occur if material flies up from the surface of the road. Maintain a safe distance between vehicles and obey the speed limit.
