Public Works Project List – March 14-March 18, 2016

Town of Bennington Project List
Week of March 14- March 18, 2016

Construction Schedules for Water Resources
Water Department

Following the lead contamination of the Flint Michigan Water System, the U.S. EPA has requested that states provide information on lead service lines in each community.

In response, the Bennington Water Department will be conducting a system wide survey of homes and businesses that are tied to the Bennington Water System for possible lead water service lines. If you believe that you have a lead water service line please contact the Bennington Town Offices located at 205 South Street, telephone 442-1037 to request an inspection.  Water Department employees will be making house to house checks in those areas where lead service lines are known to exist.  Those that are confirmed to have lead water service lines will be notified in writing and be given options for the removal of these lines.  We will begin making a priority list of addresses where lead water service lines do exist so that we can begin to eliminate the lead portions of the service.

Note: At this time the Town of Bennington is responsible for the portion of the water service from the connection at the water main to the property edge. The portion of the water line on the private property is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain and upgrade.  Bennington does treat the water supply to help eliminate the possibility of contamination from all metal water lines with the focus on lead and copper in the water supply which meets or exceeds all Federal and State guidelines.
