The towns of Arlington, Bennington, Dorset, Glastenbury, Manchester, Pownal, Rupert, Sandgate, Searsburg, Shaftsbury, Stamford, Sunderland, and Woodford formed the Bennington County Solid Waste Alliance in 2015 through an interlocal contract, pursuant to 24 V.S.A. Chapter 24. The mission of the Alliance is to reduce the amount of waste disposed in landfills, by incineration or similar means by reducing the amount of waste generated, conserving resources, and promoting recycling and reuse. As required by the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, the Alliance adopted a Solid Waste Implementation Plan or SWIP in 2020.

Purpose of Amendments: In order for a solid waste facility to be certified by the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, that facility must be listed in the Solid Waste Implementation Plan covering the area in which the facility is located. All solid waste facilities within the Alliance service area are listed. Recently it came to the attention of the Alliance that wastewater treatment facilities also need to be listed. This amendment adds those existing facilities and provides for new ones that may be developed and reviewed by the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources.

Area Covered: The towns of Arlington, Bennington, Dorset, Glastenbury, Manchester, Pownal, Rupert, Sandgate, Searsburg, Shaftsbury, Stamford, Sunderland and Woodford in the County of Bennington, Vermont.

Sections to be Amended: Section II. B. on Existing Facilities and Appendix II.C. a new section on wastewater treatment facilities.
