The following links will provide you with:

  • Necessary steps toward obtaining a marriage or civil union license
  • Recorded information from gravestones in local cemeteries until 1850
    (such as names, dates of birth, dates of death, etc.)
  • Births, deaths, and marriages occurring in Bennington from 1763 to approximately 1850

Effective July 1, 2019

Certified copies of Birth and Death certificates can only be issued to family members, legal guardians and certain court-related parties and legal
representatives. Applicants must complete an application and show acceptable identification.

To obtain a copy of any Vermont birth, death or marriage certificate, you may:

  1. Come into the office, complete the application, provide valid ID, and we will get your certificate immediately, or
  2. Mail a completed application, $10.00 check or money order and a copy of your valid ID to:Bennington Town Clerk

  3.  Email completed application and valid ID to townclerk@benningtonvt.org, call (802) 442-1044 for credit card payment. Visa and Mastercard accepted (fee applies).
