Every Birth is Recorded

Every birth in Bennington since 1762 recorded! Assistant Town Clerk Kayla Thompson looks over the 1936-37 record book which has been conserved to preserve it for posterity. To the right is the vault where all the records are kept.
The earliest town births were recorded as part of the town record as a whole. In 1857, births began to be recorded in their own log books. The town began issuing birth certificates in 1903.
On July 1, 2019, the recording of births moved to a statewide database and are now in electronic format only. Official birth (and death) certificates can be obtained by filling out the form on the town clerk webpage located at: https://benningtonvt.org/depa…/town-clerk/vital-records-2/
