Record Keeping Since 1762

In 1762, the new settlers of the Town of Bennington met for their first town meeting. The recording of this document became the first town record, beginning what is now 259 years of preserving our shared history. This duty is carried on today by our Town Clerk Cassandra Barbeau and her assistant Kayla Thompson. Cassandra is shown here showing this record both in its beautifully restored and preserved current volume, and the prior version which had been in desperate need of conservation.
These early records are part of “Book A1” and are also available in digital format on the town website at https://benningtonvt.org/…/vital…/early-town-records/
