Salt is not Photogenic

SALT is not exciting. It’s not sexy. It’s not photogenic. There just is no way to have a compelling photo of SALT. And yet SALT is one of our most important tools for keeping our roads safe and clear during the winter season.
The town of Bennington uses 3,500 TONS of salt each year. Last year costs were $64 per ton for salt, this year it will be around $73. That means last year we spent $224,000.00 and this year we will have to spend $255,500.00, assuming the amount used remains similar.
EVEN THIS AMOUNT is not enough to keep the roads completely dry at all times every day for the whole winter! A balancing act plays out every snow storm as the highway team sometimes works literally around the clock plowing, sanding, and salting our road system to keep everyone safe.
